Bahrain 'trying to solve housing shortage'
March 2010

Bahrain is attempting to solve the low and middle-income housing shortage it faces over the coming years, new research suggests.

A GCC Real Estate Quarterly report published in the latest issue of Arab-British Business and printed on the Global Arab Network said some 50,000 low-cost units are planned for construction between now and 2014.

Government housing projects will be boosted by six new schemes in the Bahrain Northern Governorate, expected to commence shortly.

And while demand for office space caused a softening in rates during the last quarter of 2009, prime areas such as Seef District and Bahrain Financial Harbour saw increased figures, ranging from $26.52 to $31.82 per square metre.

The report follows news of another company expanding into Bahrain. Frasers Hospitality said its development in the Middle Eastern market would begin with the grand opening of Fraser Suites Seef Bahrain - a 19-storey luxury accommodation complex with direct access to the Seef Mall.
