The conference included presentations from four organisations from the UK, USA and Canada and was followed by a question and answer session. Stuart Woodward and Simon Mitchell from Levvel presented an overview of the UK housing environment, focusing on their successes in the supply of viable, inclusive and sustainable affordable housing and finished by looking ahead to the problems created by the changing property market. Stuart commented “We really enjoyed meeting up with the other consultants and sharing our experiences of the American, Canadian and UK housing markets. We were taken by the similarities of the problems being experienced and by the number of different policy intervention methods that are utilised by governments to ensure enduring affordability of housing.” Levvel were joined by San Francisco based Seifel Consulting, local housing consultant Tim Wake, and Vancouver based architect Gregory Henriquez. Henriquez Partners Architects are responsible for the impressive Woodward’s redevelopment, which combines market and social housing, along with commercial/retail and institutional arts space, all of which are designed to be socially, environmentally and economically sustainable.
